5.0 out of 5 stars Good gun, reasonable distance, July 3, 2011

I have an arsenal of over 25 different dart guns, so I know what's good and what's not. This isn't made by Nerf so it isn't as durable or necessarily reliable, but the average shooting distance is right around 30 feet, which is reasonable. One big downside would be the 4-dart clip, which is something you don't want to have to reload during a battle. However, if you have the older clips from the older Buzz Bee guns then you can use those, something that helps a lot. Also, they're really easy to slip in and out to reload.

This package by itself isn't great for a Nerf war, but if you happen to have some extra clips then it makes a nice primary weapon. It takes a while to get used to the cocking mechanism with the shells that the gun uses, but I recommend getting it. It's not something worth paying over $15-$20 for, though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looks cheap but well built, May 22, 2012

At first glance of this gun at a retailer I saw the Buzz Bee Toys logo (not nerf) and immediately dismissed the toy as a cheap knockoff of a supposed better brand. But I kept looking back at the Buzz Bee toy guns for their deviation from Nerf's competitive nature. Sure this gun isn't meant for tough competitions but the mechanics in the gun make it a treasure to behold. Buzz Bee Toys has made a gun that really nods back to true bolt action guns (with a clip). The Hunter gun, a previous model, was their bolt-action gun that didn't have a clip and was a one-shot gun, which made it flawed and not generally fun inside or outside a battle. This gun serves the user more practically and is quite a good shot compared to a lot of my older Nerf guns. I'll have to see how accurate the gun stays after months of weekly use, but so far the past few weeks I've had this gun it has preserved its quality with the four darts provided. (You can buy more)

As for my 5 stars I gave it,... Read more

I have both the AirZone and BuzzBee Hawks, there are basically the same blaster (different colors) so the same review applies. They're made by the same company, AirZone is just marketed "exclusively" to ToysRUs under a different name. In fact, the picture shows the Buzzbee one.

I'm a great fan of Buzzbee foam dart weapons because they are meticulously engineered and fun and this one is no exception.

The Hawk is a bolt action repeating gun with a 4 shot magazine clip. To shoot this gun, you insert 4 shells (with bullets inserted) into the magazine clip, then insert the clip into the gun. You then pull back the bolt which inserts a bullet/shell into the firing chamber. You push back the bolt, and you're ready to fire. Once you've fired, you work the bolt action again which ejects the spent shell and inserts a new bullet/shell.

The act of loading and firing the gun is so fun that I can do this over and over just to work the bolt action and hear the... Read more
